One growth system for CNET’s video, SEO and commerce teams
CNET’s video, editorial, SEO and commerce teams were strong, but each planned on its own. I worked between them: one shared view of demand and revenue, one ranked plan, and tests that showed what worked. It produced a new video series, pages that sell better, and an Amazon program that grew 6×.

My role
The connector between the teams
I didn’t manage these teams, and none of them reported to each other. I gave about 40 people one view of what drives audience and revenue, one ranked plan, and playbooks to repeat what worked.
- Video
- Editorial
- SEO
- Design
One shared plan
Demand, revenue and results in one view every team used.
- Customer experience
- Engineering
- Product & data
- Revenue
How I decided what to make
One planning engine behind every format
Every idea was weighed the same way before anyone made it. Debates turned into a shared, ordered list, and the same engine drove video, articles, Amazon and the big shopping events.
- 01DemandWhat people search for on Google, YouTube and Amazon, and when.
- 02ValueWhat a piece can earn from ads, affiliate links and commerce partners.
- 03FormatWhere it wins: a video, an article, an Amazon page, or all three.
- 04LearnWhat actually happened, fed straight into the next plan.
What it produced
Five pieces of work, one engine
YouTube and affiliate
Amazon Must Haves: a video series picked by data
I combined three sources that hadn’t been planned together: what people search for on YouTube, what they search for on Amazon, and the price and commission of each product. That gave the video team themes and products with real buying intent, and I made the case for a new series: the best Amazon finds, often under a set price or within one category.
Its views were modest next to CNET’s big reviews. But viewers engaged, clicked through to Amazon and bought, which made the series a dependable affiliate revenue lever, so the team kept making it.
On-page conversion
Pages that help readers choose, and buy
With CNET’s Design, Customer Experience and SEO teams, I ran A/B tests on how review and comparison pages present their picks: a clear winner for each need, a score, the bottom line, pros and cons, and one buy button.
The winning design became the standard across CNET’s review and comparison pages.
- +1%
- on-page conversion
- +7%
- affiliate partner ROI

On-site video
Video that plays, and pays
I matched each video to the pages it plays on and tuned on-site autoplay for play rate, while planning video across YouTube, CNET’s own pages, search and social instead of YouTube alone.
The higher play rate on CNET’s pages supported a seven-figure pre-roll ad deal.
- 7 figures
- pre-roll ad deal
- +15%
- video traffic and revenue

Amazon Onsite Publishing
From a small test to a program that grew 6×
Amazon lets publishers place recommendations inside its own search results. At CNET it was a small experiment. I ran it as a program: the planning engine picked the searches worth winning, a seasonal calendar timed them, and writers focused on the categories that paid.
- 6×
- revenue in six months

Prime Day and Black Friday 2023
$1.5M from two shopping events
Big shopping events reward the publisher that’s ready first. I led the data-driven deals strategy: what readers would shop, which deals to cover, pages published and ranking before the rush, and prices kept fresh through the event.
- $1.5M
- incremental revenue

What I bring
What this means for your team
The same strengths fit any content-led business, marketplace or travel platform with more than one revenue stream.
Growth through teams
I align specialists who don’t report to each other around one plan and one set of numbers.
Data-led content planning
I rank what to make by demand and value, across video, articles and marketplaces like Amazon and Google.
Conversion and testing
I test page and video formats with design and product teams, and roll out what wins.
Monetization
I turn an audience into revenue through ads, affiliate links and commerce partners.
Questions
What is Amazon Onsite Publishing?
Part of Amazon’s Associates program for publishers. Their recommendations appear inside Amazon’s own search results and earn a commission on what readers buy, so several publishers compete for the same searches.
Did you manage these teams?
No. As Sr. Growth Marketing, Audience & SEO, I supported CNET’s VP of Audience Growth and worked across about 40 people in video, editorial, SEO, design and engineering through shared data, one plan and playbooks.
Does this work outside media?
Yes. Rank the opportunities, give every team one view of revenue, and keep what the tests prove: it’s how I run growth at TripWays, a travel marketplace, and the core of my growth sprint.
Want a growth system like this on your team?
I’m open to growth leadership roles, and I run fixed-price sprints for travel and experiences companies.
